If you are still on Domino Notes and Sametime 8.0x you have not more excuse to defer the upgrade because ibm support will end next 30th April 2015 .
IBM has announced 2 webcast (here link for Domino/Notes ,here Sametime ) to discuss about upgrade strategy and also Upgrade Bridge Extended Support witch could help customer in upgrade path.
If you need secuity, features, compatibility with browser,compatibility with OS, reliability contact IBM or your IBM BP and plan your upgrade to Domino Notes and Sametime 9
