How to fix IBM Installation Manager error "registry information is inconsistent" without reinstalling other software

One of my customer after an IBMIM upgrade from 1.6x to 1.8.7 has taken the following error :

'The Installation Manager's registry information is inconsistent with its installation information "

and IBMIM wasn't starting anymore.

After seen this I've fixed this issue following this steps:

1) backup agentDataLocation 
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM\Installation Manager folder

2) Rename IBMIM Install folder
mv /opt/IBM/InstallationManager   /opt/IBM/InstallationManager.old

3) Reinstall IBMIM 1.8.7 in same previous location eg /opt/IBM/InstallationManager

After this steps i was able to use IBMIM again and the previously installed software was listed correctly.
